I want to read a portion of something
I came across online years ago and afterwards posted
it on a door frame in our house as a regular reminder:
- If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on
your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep...
you are richer than 75% of this world.
- If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and
spare change in a dish someplace... you are among
the top 8% of the world's wealthy.
- If you woke up this morning with more health than
illness... you are more blessed than the million who
will not survive this week.
- If you have never experienced the danger of battle,
the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture,
or the pangs of starvation... you are ahead of 500
million people in the world.
- If you can attend a church meeting without fear
of harassment, arrest, torture, or death... you are
more blessed than three billion people in the world.
We are so blessed! When we count and consider our blessings,
we experience a joy & thanksgiving that keeps us
happy regardless of what trials we are facing.
What happens when become distracted by ‘what
went wrong’ and lose focus on our blessings? How
miserable and selfish we can become!
How can we look at a full pantry and a full refrigerator
and come away frustrated saying “There’s
nothing to eat.”?
Do we complain about the problems that this nation
has, forgetting that only a small percentage of this
world will ever know the freedom and lifestyle that
even those below our poverty line experience?
Do we murmur about having to give up something to attend
church service, while countless numbers throughout history
risk their possessions and lives just to worship with
Brothers & sisters.. let’s remember our
blessings. Let us remember our:
- so much more
Don’t lose focus on the thousands of physical
blessings you have because one or two things aren’t
how you want them to be!
Don’t lose focus on the Generous & loving
God who gave those blessings to you!
And don’t lose focus and miss why He gave them
to you… Yes, because He loves you very much. Does
He expect you to hoard them and use them for your comfort
? How did that work out for the man who hid his master’s
What are we to use these blessings for?
thanksgiving, bless others, glorify God
Lk 12:48 - But he who did not know, yet committed things
deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For
everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be
required; and to whom much has been committed, of him
they will ask the more.
God expects much from us as He has given us so much!
He has given us even greater blessings than these mentioned
so far. He has also given us invaluable Spiritual blessings:
- He hears prayers
- He gave us His Spirit
- He offers us salvation from sin
- He offers us an eternal heavenly home
These spiritual blessings are only for those who are
in Christ. If you aren’t a Christian, these blessings
are not yours.. but they can be.. tonight!
You can believe in Christ, repent of your sins, confess
Jesus as Lord, and be immersed in water for the remission
of your sins. Let us help you.
If you have already obeyed the gospel and have these
magnificient blessings, use them to be a blessing to
others - pray for others, live righteous example, and
freely share the saving gospel.
If you need to respond to the invitation, I encourage
you to do so now as we stand and sing.
